War Machine, Douglas Edric Stanley

The War Machine is a robotic apparatus interlacing the physical world with network activity. It is in fact a terminal for observing various online phenomena. Originally, the War Machine was designed as an observer to the Browser War, however various other online data can be used. For the exhibit “Valeurs”, Stock Exchange data is used to move pieces within the arena.

Abstract Machine Image Browser, Douglas Edric Stanley

This image browser scours websites for images and mixes them into the Abstract Machine Image Browser. These images can then be used by other Abstract Machines as raw data. When no URLs are added to the machine, it automatically goes back into previous links and starts following those links to find more images. This allows the Image Browser to give an abstrait “Portrait” of a website and it’s related imagery.
